Date: Saturday afternoon, April 22, 2017

Sponsors:      The National Science Foundation

The University of California at San Diego

The University of Texas at Dallas

Introduction

While female researchers serve in almost 30% of data science and engineering positions, there is still a significant shortage especially from the minority communities.  The Women in Data Science & Engineering (DSE) workshop will provide a forum for women and those passionate about gender equity in DSE to explore the barriers and issues around underrepresentation and models for increasing the pipeline.  The objective is also to motivate the female researchers and practitioners in DSE so that they can achieve career success.  Our goal is to build a community on Women in Data Science and Engineering.

Workshop Objectives

This workshop will expose participants to possibilities and opportunities in Data Science and Engineering careers and to provides a forum demonstrating technical leadership among underrepresented groups. Participants will hear from expert female researchers and practitioners in DSE about their personal and professional experiences. We will also have discussions on the successes and challenges encountered by the female professionals in DSE.
